Kootenay Rockies ATV Club (Cranbrook and Area) President Report for ATVBC 2025 AGM

The KRATV Club continues to hover around 200 members, some of whom are very active with the club, others who are active when they are able, to those who are silent members. There is a core group of members that work tirelessly to keep the club going in a positive direction.

At the beginning of the year, a ride committee was established and has proved to be a positive addition as these committee members communicate regularly to determine where to host club rides. They also hold pre-ride meetings with the riding group to detail who’s leading, tail-gunning, method of following (watch for the one behind, leapfrog, cones), who’s carrying the AED & first aid kit, who has radios, and any other information necessary to ensure a safe and fun experience. A few occurrences have happened this year, which leads to a rider group discussion of management for future potential hazards or problems to ensure everyone’s safety. We have a great group of people who look out for one another and are willing to lend helping hands whenever needed out on the trails.

As of August 29th, the KRATV Club has held 21 sanctioned rides which included new rides to Dry Creek and Fir Mountain/Emily Creek in Canal Flats area; Bruce Creek outside of Invermere; Fernie area led by Tom and the Elk Valley ATV Club, and Crowsnest, Alberta area led by the Quad Squad ATV Club. On September 20th, our club is reciprocating a ride as we will be hosting the Crowsnest Quad Squad ATV Club on a ride in the Cranbrook area. Special thanks to Tom and the Elk Valley ATV Club, and to Gary, Jerry, and Jerry from the Crowsnest Quad Squad for hosting our KRATV members on rides in your areas.
The KRATV Club held another successful annual poker run in conjunction with Black Sheep Ventures 4-day Rally in the Valley event. Events included daily rides enjoyed by all who partook, on-site camping, a BBQ, live music from Rivertown Band, and lots of visiting. Thank you to all who attended and supported this event in one fashion or another.

Our KRATV Club, through its Trail Committee, many club volunteers, and a hired contractor have been engaged in two larger trail restoration projects this year with the use of grant funding. The first project was the Pitt Creek Trail Maintenance Project 2025 consisting of brushing 5 km’s of existing trails located in the Perry Creek area. The project was funded by the Quad Riders ATV Association of BC (ATVBC) in the amount of $4,500. The second project, still underway, is the Angus Creek Trail Maintenance Project 2025 consisting of brushing 22.5 km’s of existing trails. This Angus Creek project is part of a greater club initiative connecting three spectacular mountain ranges thus enhancing the riding area and experience. The project was funded by The Off-Road Vehicles (ORV) of the Government of BC in the amount of $25,000. Other smaller projects are completed solely by club volunteers. The trail committee has recently purchased three pelican picks (muck scoops) for trail maintenance safety.

Plans, initiatives, or goals for upcoming year:
  • Continue working on keeping trails cleared and applying for grants
  • A couple years ago, KRATV Club created a map book of trails in and around the Cranbrook area. It was a successful fundraiser for supporting our trail clearing projects. The map books have sold out and there is talk about updating trails and publishing another document. In the meantime, the Club has printed and dispersed brochures and business cards to various locations in and around Cranbrook.
  • Keep the Club’s Facebook and website pages updated on a more regular basis.
  • Think outside the box on how to attract new members into the club and get more involvement from current members in community activities.
  • Working to establish relationships with other user groups.

Lastly and most importantly, to all our club volunteers, there aren’t enough words to express the gratitude of time, support, and effort you have put forth into making the KRATV Club successful in its ventures and activities. THANK YOU!!!
Wherever your trails take you, may you safely enjoy the adventure.

Jean Ogonoski
President of the Kootenay Rockies ATV Club (Cranbrook and Area)

Members of the KRATV Club hosted a successful event on September 20, 2025 with members of the Crowsnest Pass Quad Squad. Riding some freshly brushed trails took the group to great view points. The day ended with some tasty snacks and friendly socializing. It was a great day!

Some KRATV members joined the Elk Valley ATV Club on August 9, 2025, to enjoy an adventurous ride along Coal Creek and Hosmer Ridge areas. Thank you, Tom, for organizing the group, taking us to see spectacular views, and for a good time by all!
Many thanks to Gary, Jerry, and Jerry from the Crowsnest Quad Squad for taking some members of the KRATV group on a spectacular ride, McGill to Atlas on July 19, 2025. It was a great ride enjoyed by all! The day ended with being treated to a BBQ hosted by the Quad Squad. :)

Thank you to Bernie and Gary for the back and forth correspondence to make this great event happen.
It's official! The KRATV Club has been awarded $25,000 for the ORV grant this year for the Angus Creek Trail Maintenance project.
